From The World Hunger Education Service, we were informed that 19 million people are affected by world hunger in Developing countries, 37 million near East and North Africa, 53 million in Latin America and the Caribbean, 239 million in Sub-Sahara Africa, and 578 million in Asia and the Pacific. This is the amount of people in the world who are starving.

Now, loads of people claim that they are “STARVING” when it is about time for them to eat a boat load of dinner or lunch, per-say, but these people aren't actually starving, meaning that they have food that they can eat and that they will live on if they don't get food within the next couple of hours. Sadly, for the people who live in the countries such as Asia and the Caribbean, this may not be the case. Sometimes, there is no food for them to eat at all. These citizens may go days without food or water, yet we Americans have plenty of food. In fact, we waste a lot more than I ever thought possible.

At a seminar, we learned that we Americans throw away enough food in one year to feed the entire world for three. For example, when there is just a little bit of spaghetti left in your bowl, you just decide to throw it away because it isn't enough for you to have a full meal out of it tomorrow. Well, imagine if every American did that same thing every day. The food just keeps adding up and adding up. But something else to think about when it comes to this subject is the fact that we have enough food to waste that much. And with this food and a little help, we could make a big difference.

In order to help those famished people, this group is hosting a Free-Rice-A-Thon. Free Rice is a website that helps donate food to poorer countries while educating the public. The site gives the reader a simple quiz, and for every question that a participant answers correctly, 10 grains of rice are donated. When has being able to help been so easy? In order to help you could do many things, but we recommend playing Free Rice, or having us play Free Rice for you.
